Blog Response #2

Choose a character from your book.  How do you envision this character?  Use your words to describe how this character looks, acts, and behaves.  Also, discuss the impact this character has had on the story up to this point. Would you be friends with this character, or would you avoid him/her?  Why? What role does this character play in your book?  If this character was not in the book, would the book change?  Why or why not??  (Remember to give specific details and a complete blog entry, and don't forget to comment on two other blog entries!  Happy Blogging! :)

  1. I chose the character Louie Banks, I envision him as the popular jock. He is dating a cheerleader, so I see him as a guy who everybody knows and likes. I think he would be skinny but also have some muscle. He acts kind of cocky, but also respects his family and friends and is overall a great kid. He is the main character, so made a huge impact on the story. The story would be completely different if he was not in the story. I personally would not be friends with this character because I am not really into football and Louie brings in a lot of drama, and I hate drama. Louie has a huge impact on the story and the story line would change drastically if he was out of the story.

    1. There is a person like Louie in my book. He used to work at a child center but something happened that i can't share on here because Mrs. B would get mad, but Nortie is a cocky person and is always bringing drama into things and making there lives harder than it needs to be.

    2. I agree with how you envision Louie. Louie is a caring strong guy, who isn't exactly the smartest, but definitely one of the nicer and more caring guys in the book. Louie is also probably one of the stronger kids in his school.

    3. I do and I don't agree with you of how you envision Louie. Yes Louie can be a Jock and he is dating a cheerleader. I mean if he was a jock then wouldn't he have gone for the cheerleader not the other way around, just think about it. And him being a jock is just a store front for him to fit in. truly he is a true hearted kid at heart with good values, and yes he will show them in weird ways but its how he expresses them. That's who he is. A good kid.

  2. I chose the character lion, I envision him as the jacked high school kid who doesn't really fit in anywhere except his closest friends. That basically goes for all of them though. I don't remember if lion has a girlfriend or not but he is on the swim team and he is one of the best swimmers if not the best swimmer on the team. Lion is probably the cockiest person in the friend group when it comes to swimming and basically everything. Especially now that Stotan week has started. There was a part in the book that said after practice for becoming a Stotan Lion was laying in his bed and then Nortie and Jeff basically jumped him and started holding him down and pounding on his chest and Lion was egging them on so Nortie dragged him outside and threw him in a snowbank.

    2. Hi Cole!

Lion kind of reminds me of a character in my book! Loin seems like an overall nice guy, but may have anger issues here and there. I think I would be friends with Lion but not super close. I think he would be nice to hang out with at school, but would be controlling if we got too close. Being the star of the swim team, I think he might get into his head at times. Also, I would not want my best friend to be violent.

    3. Cole, your book sounds similar to mine in the sense that one the characters is being abused by their parents. I agree with Logan that you don't really understand your book quite yet. Lion doesn't feel like the type of person that I would be friends with because he sounds arrogant.

    5. I do agree with you on how lion looks and acts. Lion will not just leave things alone which can make him cocky and confronts anything that he thinks is unfair. This sometimes gets him into trouble but he is willing to do anything. With the mix of him being jacked I think he would be extremely intimidating.

  3. I chose the character Norite Wheeler. I see him as the shy kid but very athletic. Norite I feel like would just look normal although he would have a few bruises here and there on his face from his dad beating him. Since he is a swimmer I feel like he will have a lot of muscle, and like no body fat. Norite is one of the main characters so he does have a huge impact because he is always there for his friends. Norite's role in the book is the kid that panics a lot and is always scared of something, but is never afraid to get out there and swim, and he is the best one on the team. I would be friends with him because he seems nice and he's never mean to anyone even though he has a a lot of stuff going down at home. If Norite wasn't in the book it would change a lot because that would take away the person that holds there group together. I

    2. I always thought Nortie was a cocky type of person in the book but i guess i was wrong, but i agree with how you said that if he wasn't in the book it would be totally different. Nortie always would make his friends do stuff to benefit them like swim harder or workout harder, and things in that nature.

    6. I would agree with you but I think he is smaller than lion and walker i think he is a fairly built guy and I feel bad for him because his dad is a bad person and that just sucks and that's why I kind of see norite as shy and just kind of keeps to himself and walker because walker has been their and understands.

      Delete
    7. I would agree, I think he is shy and it is very surprising that he is not mean to anyone even though he is abused at home. Usually, that is not the case and if the parents are abusing the child is also abusive to other people. Although, he has let his anger out a couple of times in the book, he seems to stay pretty humble and I don't think anyone would know he abused besides his scars and bruises.

  4. I picked to do Louie Banks the main character in the book Running Loose. From what the book has said i envision him as one of the popular kids in school because of football and everyone seems to know him. I think he is most likely built smaller then most of the other guys at his school and a bit shorter. He has his morals set and if somethings goes against them he definitely lets people know that and stands his ground for what he thinks is right. He is definitely one of the few people in this book that has values and sticks to them unlike most if the people in this book.

  5. I am reading the book Chinese Handcuffs and the character I have the clearest picture of is Jennifer. I envision a somewhat tall and skinny girl wearing an old basketball uniform. I picture she has dirty blonde/light brown hair that she keeps up in a pony tail. So far I haven't learned a ton about Jennifer but found out she is having family issues. Her step-father is abusive and her mother doesn't care about her. I think that's the reason she seems so closed off is strictly because of her family. If I were in the story I would be friends with Jennifer because she seems nice and like she is just going through hard times. If Jennifer wasn't a character in the book the beginning of the story wouldn't change a ton. I'm starting to read more about her and I think the rest of the story would be pretty different if she wasn't in it. She's a close friend of Dillon so besides him we read about Jen the most.

  6. The character I choose is Louie Banks, I envision this character to be the helpful and strong loving guy who is always working hard to reach his goals. whenever he is around this one girl in the book that he absolutely adores, he gets all tense and nervous that he would overthink his words and always to try to play the cool guy. I see this guy being well built in the physical form area, and he is very goal oriented and pursuing for the future of his football career. Since he is a senior this year, he is being more noticed by the lower classmen. I would also see myself being friends with him because he is very pursuing in working out, I would be seriously down with that. If he was not in the book then the book really wouldn't matter because, it's all about him and his back story about his life and highschool world.

  7. The character I chose is Dale Thornton I think he is a bigger stronger guy that is very feared among other kids. He has a rough life, he lives in the rough part of town with not the greatest parents, his parents probably were alcoholics and abused him as a child. Dale I think also has a soft side because he can relate to somethings different kids went through. If dale wasn't in the book the storyline would change dramatically. There would be no Crispy Pork Grinds or nothing for Sarah and Moby to look back on to reflect on there junior high days.

This Dale character you envision is a lot like Nortie in my book, because has also had a very hard time at home with his dad abusing him. Nortie also has a very soft side because he used to work at a YMCA center to take care of kids.

  8. I chose to try and envision Carter. Carter is the most athletic and strongest guy on Louie's football team. Carter is a jock compared to Louie, but he is also one of the kindest characters in the book. Carter is more than likely bulky and weighs a decent amount, but almost all if not all of it is muscle. Carter is skinny but bulky and looks like a powerhouse. He moves like an athlete and acts like an athlete, making it seem that he was born and bred to be an all star. Most people who are strong and bulky usually aren't to smart, all braun and no brain type of deal. Carter isn't normal though, Carter is strong, smart, and fast. Carter has it all, almost like the perfect person. Carter has become good friends with Louie and is there to have Louie's back most of the time. Carter is the best character in this book in my opinion, he is smart, strong, caring, and even a common sense type of man.

  9. I am going to choose the character Dale in staying fat or Sarah Byrnes. I envision dale to be a bigger kid and a little rough around the edges. I can see him with long hair and being tall and skinny. He is kind of dirty and greasy all the time. He seems like a tough kid but in reality he is super soft and emotional on the inside. He acts cool and chill but isn't on the inside. Dale is posed as the antagonist in the beginning of the book but then turns into there friend and helps Eric find out what is wrong with Sarah and ways to make her talk. Personally I probably wouldn't be friends with him just because he would probably be mean and I don't agree with that. Overall, I like him being in the book because so far it has made it more interesting and it helps the main characters.

    1. Hi Amelia,
Dale sounds like someone in my book Chinese Handcuffs. The character in my book is Dillon. He also seems to be bigger but muscular and a big teddy bear when he is by himself. If these two were in a book together I could see them being friends but they would probably bully others. Just like your character Dale, I picture my character Dillon as a mean guy as well.

    2. I see Dale as a shorter, stockier person because of the scene in Dale's garage. I can see him more as a beefy kid, with a butch hair cut. He doesn't show any emotions really other than anger and that his father is a deadbeat pretty much.

I absolutely agree with you that Dale is the character which is tall, skinny with long hair who is always dirty and greasy because he works at garage. He can be so rude to anyone, he is like that one kid in school who always gets in trouble you can find him in principal's office always. He has turned 16th years old but still in 8th grade, he is mature enough but rejects to act that way.

It sound like Dale from your book and Dillion from my book Chinese Handcuffs would get along great. they both sound like they are very closed off and mostly keep to themselves and are also athletically built. 10. I choose the character Stacy. I envision her to be average height, blonde, and a smile all the time. She seems like a helpful, loving, caring, and all around a good person. She takes care of everyone else before her self. I would be friends with her because of the person she is. She would be someone you could always count on and those are the types of friends I like because I feel like I am that person. Stacy has a place in Dillon and Prestons life but she was only in love with Preston. Now that Preston is gone Stacy is there and supporting Dillon. If she wasn't in the book I don't think there would be much of a change because she was only introduced and not really a main character.

    1. I agree Stacy does have a significant impact in Dillon's life now that Preston has passed. She seems like she understands the troubles Dillon has gone through. I feel like later on in the book she will have a more important role. Its hard to envision what Stacy's life is like because she rarely is talked about in the book.

      Sawyer

    2. I envision Stacy the exact same was physically. At the beginning I seen her as a very sweet soft person but after the speculation of her possibly having Preston's child and keeping it a secret is pretty messed up in my mind. If my brother or even son had killed himself but had a child before then I would like to know because that is a part of him that still lives on and should not be hidden by Stacy if the speculation is true.

      Delete
    3. I think the way you described Stacy was spot on. Right now she is definitely the person that Dillon knows he can talk to about his struggles and knows he can trust. I see her being a more important character once the book continues but once we get to know more about her I feel like all the missing pieces if there are any will soon fall into place.

  11. I chose the character Dillon from the book Chinese Handcuffs. In my mind Dillon looks like the average high school junior, I see him being taller and on the skinnier side. Based on some of his actions in the book I for see him being the guy that is sneaky, and troublesome. He comes across as the type of person who will be a great friend if he likes you, but if he doesn't life could be miserable for you. There have been a few instances in which Dillon has done things intentionally just to get under the skin of others, such as wearing the inappropriate shirt to school . However, he does show moments in which he shows his true character which includes a soft heart. I do see myself being friends with Dillon because he has a good sense of humor and seems to be a very straightforward, tell it how it is type of guy. Since Dillon is one of the main characters, the book would change drastically if he wasn't in it. I predict Dillon and Jennifer will have a connection in the end of the book, so without him this would be a one sided story.

I see him as a regular sized person. His enigma is a larger figure that bullies people for their lunch money, when really he was just a regular sized person because in the junior high, he was older and everyone else hadn't hit their growth spurt. This is the character in the book who had committed suicide. from what I have collected reading about Preston is that he is a scrawny type of teenage boy. he also got into a motorcycle accident causing him to loose both of his legs. I picture him with dark bond hair and honestly looking pretty beat up considering he was heavily into drugs before passing away. Preston is almost like the the main reason for this book because the story is based around his brother Dillon journaling to him even though he will never see them. I don't think i would ever be friends with a person like Preston because he is talked about to be a really bad person; drugs, in a biker gang, raping a girl, killing a cat. All those things just aren't something I would look for in a friend.

So, I imagine that Nortie having a six pack and is very well rounded muscle wise so his chest isn't extremely dense but not covered in fat. I imagine that he has brown hair and that he is almost five foot nine inches. Also, he has a sharp chin line and a thick neck. Also, I'm not sure if he fits in well with everyone else in his high school also if feel like he would be the quiet kid of the group. He is a star player on the football team who more than likely doesn't feel pain. He acts like a complete jerk and likes to get all the girls or try to impress them. He behaves in a crappy way, he performed an illegal hit on an opposing teams quarterback and was excited about it. He also tried to punch Louie the main character while he was sitting in his truck but he was too drunk to land it. Therefore, after Boomer hit the quarterback it sparks a big problem when almost everybody is taking Boomers side.

    4. I am reading Chinese handcuffs and the character I have chosen is Preston, Dillions brother. I envision him as a greaser from like Outsiders, in a wheel chair. Very rough looking and angry. He would be a tall lanky kid who has a pretty decent build. He is also very nice to his family and friends. He is a main character and makes a huge impact on the story. If he wasn't in the story it would change completely and have to focus on a new character and make new drama. Jeff seems like he would look like a nerdy type kid, buck teeth not to big, pimples mostly on his cheeks, brown short hair kind of greasy, and sometimes wears big thick glasses and does his homework a lot. it sounds like Jeff doesn't show up to much in the book but he seems like the nerdy type and intimidate others type of person in the group. i would be friends with Jeff but barely talk to him so i don't offend him because, he can suck something out of his tooth and shoot it at somebody, he plays the quite kid in the back you don't want to make mad or you would regret it, type of person. yes a lot i feel like the group would be lost and bored a lot of the time.

  19. I choose Sarah Byrnes character, I envision her being strong and independent as 8th grader who has learned how to fight from her father and her enemies like Dale, he is jock and weird kid that is still in 8th grader, he is 16th years old. She always proves that looks does not matter your personality and heart matters which Eric, her bestfriend who agrees and support her in anyway possible. Also she plays good role of being true friend to Eric from saving him from Dale's bullying. The impact that Sarah leaves on this story is that she never ever wanted to give up in life even if her own father treats her less human and life which is full with problems. Yes I would absolutely be her friend and support her as well. I feel like this book would totally be different if she was not part of it because her bravely and loyalty shows how you should be in life even when life treats you no good.

  20. the character I chose is Sarah Byrnes and she's on of the main characters in the book . When I envision what she looks like i see her has average height and very skinny and petite but i feel like she's very strong physically because she was bullied a lot so she needs to be able to protect herself. I personally would love to be her friend because she is not afraid to stand up to someone if they are being a jerk to her friends. from what Eric has said about her in the book she sounds very strong willed and care free but also serious when needed. this book would be very different without her because she is the whole reason the book exists. Sarah has impacted the story by showing people that its okay to be different.

I am reading the book Chinese Handcuffs and the character I chose is dillion, I envision dillion as being just the average high school kid, tall and built and very athletic I also feel like he tends to keep to himself a lot. Dillon is very smart but tends to get into trouble sometimes. I feel he is the main character in the book because the letters are told from his point of view and he is always talking in the book.

  22. From my book Running Loose I chose Boomer and the way I envision him is him being a big dude that's very strong and his height being 6'5 and he's very cocky. In the book, Boomer plays the role of being the antagonist, and the impact he has made in this book is when he punches Louie in the face while he was drunk or when he injured the opposing team quarter back and thinking it was alright and base on his actions I would definitely avoid being friends him. I think the reason why he acts like this because his father and I say his father because there are moments where he would beat him for telling a lie or cussing. If Boomer wasn't in the book I feel like nothing would change, Louie will still get the cheerleader and he will still play football.

    3. I also agree with the way you see Boomer. He has a rough background with his dad so I think that's what makes him a bully. He sounds big and scary and comes off as intimidating to people. He is also very mean and cocky so many people may not want to be friends with him. His dad plays a big part on why Boomers acts like he does.

  23. I am reading the book Chinese Handcuffs and I chose the character Dillion. How I would envision Dillion is like an average high schooler. I imagine him being tall and muscular being he is very athletic. I picture him with long brown hair just like a person who keeps to himself and only opens up when he feels its best. He is very smart, but tends to get himself into some trouble here and there which is why I think him and I would get along very well. Dillion is definitely one of the main characters in the book if not the main character in the book because the majority of it is told from his point of view.

    3. I visualize Walker Dupree from Stotan to be very similar. His muscular built is seen in the pool as he is a high level swimmer so he has got to be in peak shape. The story also comes from Walkers point of view and gets along very well with his group of while still picking on Nortie from time to time.

  24. I chose Eric Calhoune from Staying Fat for Sarah Byrnes. I envision him as your average high schooler, chunky, brown hair, perhaps brown eyes? (I'm bad at this sort of stuff.) I feel like the main characters of books rarely describe themselves.

  25. I am reading Chinese Handcuffs and the character I chose was Dillion. Dillion probably looks like your typical high school boy. He is pretty athletic so he is probably pretty big. He seems like a pretty stubborn and funny guy who likes to joke around, but doesn't open up. I would definitely get along with Dillon pretty well and he seems like a really chill dude. Sense he is basically the main character in the book it would be a lot different without him. We probably would not see the notes he writes to his brother and his thoughts and feelings.

  26. i choose the main character dillon, i envision him like the big kid in your grade who has older siblings that they are taller and bigger than. Dillon acts like his older brother and has a soft side for stacey and jennifer aswell as his brother. but i also think he is a quiet type because he doesn't really go out of his way to engage in a conversation. Dillon has a big role in this book because he is the one who we read all the letters that he writes to preston, he is also how we found out what happened to his brother. if he was not in the book we would never have learned what the actual details of his brother dying were and we wouldnt know what had happened before his brother died and what lead up to it.

  27. I am reading running loose and the character I am choosing to describe is Louie. Louie is the main character who i envision to be right around five feet ten inches tall. I picture him being around one hundred and sixty pounds to one hundred and seventy pounds. He worked out a lot for three months straight so I see him not having much body fat and being a pretty athletic person. Louie is am amazing football player who quit the team because another player hurt the other teams star player on purpose. I would want to be friends with Louie considering he likes sports and stands behind what he says. If Louie was not in this book everything would be different. Carter would not have a best friend and would have to deal with the hot head Boomer all the time. Boomer would have no one on the team that he would hate so he would only enjoy if Louie was not there. Overall if Louie was not in this story everything would be very boring

  28. the character I chose from the book Chinese handcuffs is Preston. The most notable thing about his appearance is the fact that he uses a wheelchair to get around, because of a car accident a couple years prior. Besides this the book doesn't really go into how he looks to much, however I do think he has a more sad and tired demeanor based on his actions. the book would be very different without him as Preston's death has affected his brother Dillon, the main character, in a lot of ways. i don't think me and Preston would get along because he doesn't seem to try to bond with anyone especially after the car accident.

  29. I am doing one of the main characters Eric. I see Eric as this taller kind of dude who isn't skinny but but isn't over weight either. I also feel like he was a shorter and overweight guy in middle school but he just grew out of that. If Eric was not a character in Staying Fat for Sarah Byrnes it wouldn't be called staying fat for Sarah Byrnes because Eric told Sarah that he would stay fat for her. Another thing is they wouldn't be looking back in the past together, I don't even think Sarah would be a live because I feel like Eric helped Sarah be her self.

    2. I agree with you he is a lot like Dillon is Chinese Handcuffs. In my mind he has a more built upper body while still sort of slim. He also seems to do very well in school and is on the popular side of the high school spectrum just like Staton.

  31. The character I chose is Jennifer. I picture her being around 5'9'', long slim legs, with medium length brown hair. Jen is an amazing basketball player who truly cares about her team. It is funny how much she is like me when it comes to her personality and how serious she is when it comes to playing sports. I would definitely be friends with someone like her. She plays a big role in this book because she gives a sense of humor to it after the section with Dillon and Preston, but there is some deeper meaning to why she wants her sister Dawn to stay with her coach so badly.

Jennifer's role in this book is a high school basketball player and is friends with Dillion. 2. Hey Liam,
I agree with you and Olivia about Nortie being seen as a shy character. It shows early on in the book as he does not have much to say but is still very engaged in all the conversations. Also, he is the most curious one in the group, being the first one to sign up for Stotan Week. My view was changed a little about Nortie after this because in the first chunk of pages I would have figured that Nortie would be the most hesitant to sign up, but now see that there is another side to him.

  36. Olivia Hefel
In the book Stotan!, Nortie seems to be a calm and curious teenager boy. He was very curious on finding what "Stotan Week" was. He was getting teased about that, and when I envision someone getting teased I think of someone who wears a striped shirt with jeans and glasses. With Nortie, I also envision him having a couple of bruises and scars from his father abusing him. Nortie has stayed pretty humble, but I think he has a lot of anger built up from his dad abusing him and he has taken that out a couple of times; therefore, he has an anger side to him. Nortie has had a huge impact to the story. He is one of the four main characters. He is a swimmer, and if we didn't have him in the story it would be very boring. Nortie makes the story interesting by sharing his personal stories to his friends how the abuse from his dad has changed his life, such as loosing his brother. He also makes the story interesting by having girlfriend problems. I would be friends with Nortie, because I feel like he is the most dysfunctional one in that friend group and he seems like he would be fun to be around. Most of the story has obviously been talking about swimming but the other half so far has been talking mostly about Nortie's life and his daycare incident and their future plans. If Nortie wasn't in the story I feel like there would be no theme in the story and there wouldn't be much of a story besides talking about swimming.

Although I'm not reading the same book that you are, you made the novel you are reading sound pretty interesting so far. I think that many characters in the book really create the theme and make the story into what it is, so I agree with you in the sense that the book would most likely be pretty boring without Nortie, who I'm going to assume is a main character in the book. You sound pretty interested and in depth to the book so I really hope you are enjoying it so far!

  37. I'm reading Staying Fat for Sarah Byrnes, the character I'm choosing is Sarah. Sarah is a tuff girl who does not let anyone push her around. Her physical appearance, her face is burned so far I do not know what the exact reason why. So far Sarah's impact is huge. She's certainly is in the hospital unconscious. Her bestfriend, Eric Calhoune has been trying to figure out what happened with Sarah. Although many people stay clear away from Sarah, ever since she has been in the hospital there's been conversations about her. People feeling bad that they treated her the way they did. I would be scared to be her friend because she's tuff and I feel like I would say the wrong things. The book would change a lot if Sarah Byrnes was not in the book, the book revolves around her being in the hospital.

  38. In the book Staying Fat For Sarah Byrnes, I chose Eric Calhoune to discuss. I really think Eric stands out in this book and is one of the main characters because of his loyalty to Sarah throughout it all. At first, Eric was the one getting picked on and was not the ideal character to draw attention or attraction to, however throughout the story and nearing their senior year, Eric has lost a lot of weight and is no longer "fat" or really getting made fun of much because of his weight anymore. However as his image gets better, Sarah's does not. She stuck with Eric through his struggle of being bullied for being larger. Therefore Eric believes it is only right that he is there for Sarah when she is now struggling mentally and with her home life. At times he feels stuck and as though he is unsure of what to do, but nevertheless stays devoted to Sarah and to their friendship. I really admire this kind of loyalty in a friendship as well as showing true kindness in general to someone you find valuable in your life, such as the relationship between Sarah and Eric. Personally at times I can understand where Sarah may be coming from, as if the world is against you and you're just going through a hard time, but knowing you have someone there, a true friend, is the greatest support that you could ever have to get you through it all. If it weren't for Eric, considering Sarah's mental health I am not sure if she would have made it as far as she did without him. I admire Sarah and Eric's friendship and I do think I would be friends with both of these characters.

  39. I am reading Stotan and I choose to discuss the traits of Max (Swim Coach). I did not see anyone else that is reading this book elaborate on Max, but he is a key character in the story. Max has built up the Frost Swim Program to be something really special and although not having many swimmers, he makes sure that they are ready to compete. He is not a morning person so he does not go the 5:30 a.m. workouts. He does not have to though because he has built up trust with the guys on the team and made it very clear that they will not get any better if they dog their workouts. Max is also seen to be a secretive guy because when the team asks about Stotan Week he reviels no information.

  40. The character in my book that I would like to focus on is Nortie. I Imagine Nortie as a smaller scrawny boy, who always wears Long sleeves no matter what, even in the summer. I think this because Norties father abuses him, and I feel like a lot of people know but he still thinks he has to hide it. I think I would be good friends with Nortie because he is very good with kids( before he quit his job) and I am also really well with kids. Also just like him I kind of hold all my feelings and never really let anything out.

  41. The character i choose to talk about from the book Staying Fat for Sarah Byrnes is Dale Thornton. He is a character that truly sticks out in this book and makes this book have special character. In my eyes I view Dale as a stronger guy who is the classic bully. He has a rough life and lives at a bad end of town. Although he does seem like the big tough guy i also think that he has a soft side and does care what people think of him. If Dale wasn't in the book i think the story would have a very different view and perspective, as well as it would change the theme of the book.

She also seems very confident in herself since she wasn't scared to make the first move with Louie. 44. I am choosing Louie in Running Loose as the character I am focusing on. I envision Louie as a stronger looking high schooler because he is involved in football. He acts like kind of a determined person who can sometimes have a short fuse. Louie has impacted the story by competing with other players in races at the beginning of practice and getting kicked off the team. I would most likely avoid this character because he has a lot of problems going on around him and can be toxic. He is the main character of the book and that's a good thing because he has so much going on. If he wasn't in the book there wouldn't be a story to tell because there wouldn't be a huge problem with him and his coaches.

  45. I am choosing Jen from Chinese Handcuffs to focus on. I imagine Jen to be more built and muscular since she is a passionate basketball player. 46. The character I chose is Eric Calhoune, I envision him as being short and chubby at the height if 5'2 and also having glasses on his face. The way he acts is that he gives his opinion about everything and doesn't care what people say about it. He is also a caring person and try's to help as much as possible for the people around him. He has made impact on the story by doing the best that he can do to be and do what to do in situations. I would be friends with this person because he seems like a person I would hang around with. The role that this character plays in the story he is a big part being the main character that is in the book. The other role that he is playing is being there for the other characters as well. If Eric Calhoune wasn't in the book the whole story would fell apart. Because nothing would going as planned in the book, the story would not move along.

Boomer Cowans is quite the character in Chris Crutcher's book Running Loose. Louie describes him as big and strong like Carter but “dumber than a cinder block”. In my head I just picture Boomer as a bowling ball that runs over people on the football field. Multiple times Louie said he almost died to Boomer when he did not agree with him. He was so strong and mean that he could beat you to death. I feel like Boomer hasn’t had that big of an effect on the story so far as he hasn’t affected Louie’s life very much. Louie has been living his normal life and is careful around Boomer with what he says. If I was in Louie’s shoes, I would not be friends with Boomer either. As a matter of fact, I would do the same thing that Louie has been doing, try to avoid Boomer as much as possible and be careful with what you say around him. If Boomer was not in the book, I personally do not think it would make that big of a difference other than his high school football team not being as good as they are right now.

I think the book would be completely different without Preston. If it wasn't for Preston there probably would not even be a book.
