I choose the book Running Loose because when I read the summary it sounded a lot like a small town like Epworth. I was suddenly very interested and wanted to read more because then I would be able to relate to the book. I always enjoy reading books that I can actually relate to and make connections with. The small town football team is very much like Western Dubuque football, which makes it seem so real. So far, I am happy with the choice, they talk about small town problems like girls and being in shape for football, a lot like kids do around here. To be honest, my initial thoughts, I thought it was going to be a book I would not enjoy because of the football. They talk about so much more than football, that I actually do enjoy it. I am finding the book enjoyable because they talk about more than just football, and I am making those real life connections. So far, I like it!

Hi Kaylee :)
Deleteso heard you are enjoying the book so far, I wish I could relate because this was my 1 choose same I was making same connections with summary and it sounded relevant. I am happy that you are in enjoying the book.
Hi Kaylee
DeleteI'm glad your enjoying your book so far, I wish i could make connection to my book. I feel like you can relate to your book a lot and enjoy reading it.

DeleteHi Kaylee,
DeleteI cannot relate to this book like u can, it makes reading it a lot less enjoyable and harder to read, I'm still intrigued by the book and how its going so far. If I could make connections to the book like you, I guarantee it would be much more enjoyable.
I choose to read the book Running Loose because when I read the summary it reminded me of Western Dubuque and it talked a lot about football and how his life would be impacted when he went against his coach. I like reading this book so far because I can relate to it because I'm also and high school and have played football my whole life. It has been very interesting so far because you get to learn about everyone in his small town and how he has a girlfriend and just doesn't focus on football if uses his whole high school experience. I look forward to getting to read more of this book because it reminds me of home. So far I love it.
ReplyDeleteHi Tyler
Deleteso heard you are enjoying the book so far, I wish I could relate because this was my 1 choice same I was making same connections with summary and it sounded more relevant to the reality. I am happy that you are in enjoying your book so far.
Hi, Tyler
DeleteI like how you enjoy your book, i was kind of upset because this book was my number 1 choice too. I like how its more realistic and adds more drama into it than just all football. I hope you are able to make more connections throughout your book.
Hey Tyler,
DeleteThat book does sound interesting, the Western Dubuque community (small towns) is rare so I would be curious to see how your book compares to our school. My book also shows some of the difficulties kids our age may encounter. I hope you enjoy the rest of your book.
Hi Tyler,
DeleteI cannot relate to this book like u can, it makes reading it a lot less enjoyable and harder to read, I'm still intrigued by the book and how its going so far. If I could make connections to the book like you, I guarantee it would be much more enjoyable.
Running loose was my number one choice as well, but I got Chinese handcuffs instead. both of these books seem to deal with a more athletic based character dealing with trauma, so hopefully mine is as interesting.
DeleteHi Tyler,
DeleteI am glad that you are enjoying the book. I am also reading this book and I enjoy it too since I live in a small town and I enjoy sports. I hope that you enjoy the book as you keep reading further.
Hi Tyler,
DeleteI am glad you are enjoying your book. I am reading the same one and I like it as well. It does remind me of the bobcat community on how we are all from small towns but the support is always there. I hope you like reading the rest of the book, feel like i will.
I didn't really get to choose my book but I have Chinese handcuffs and I'm happy with my book. At first the prologue is a little confusing because it goes from a letter to a flashback to someone else's perspective. This book is interesting because it deals with mental health and the main character is very interesting. This book is very interesting because it deals with stuff that teenagers go through. A Connection I can make to this book is the fact that he is a runner. I used to run cross Country. The book is good.
ReplyDeleteHey John,
DeleteSince you didn't get to pick your book, would you have picked a different book out of the four books or would have still picked Chinese handcuffs. Anyway I hope you enjoy your book even if it wasn't something you were able to pick yourself.
Hi Mackenzy
DeleteI don't know what book I would choose. I hope you enjoy your book also!
Hi John,
DeleteIt seems like your book sounds interesting because you say it talk about what teenagers go through everyday and mental health and its interesting because its real life stuff and I'm glad you think your book is interesting and I hope you enjoy reading it.
I am also reading Chinese Handcuffs and I am glad you are enjoying it as much as I am. I agree the book is a little confusing at first but it clears up and gets easier to read.
DeleteHi John, your book is about how teenagers deal with highschool and everything that comes with it, and I think that's a great. This would be a well chosen book going through highschool and would teach you a lot of struggles that other highschoolers have that you might not have to deal with.
DeleteHi John,
DeleteI am reading Chinese Handcuffs too. I agree it is confusing in the beginning when the switch back and forth like that. I really like the book so far.
I chose to read the book Chinese Handcuffs because after reading the review I realized it was nothing like I have every read before so why not try something new. So far, after starting the book I am more happy with my choice then not. The reasons I enjoy the book is because the main character is not a very serious person and makes a hard situation easier with his humor and approach to it. On the other hand I do not enjoy it because of how slow the book takes off. Personally, I enjoy books more when they start off with a bang. Even though I am somewhat on edge as to if I love this book yet I look forward to seeing what happens next and for the story to pick up.
ReplyDeleteHi Makayla!
DeleteI also am not a fan when books start slow, it takes forever to get interested in them. I love when books are lighthearted and easy to relate to. Hopefully the book becomes more interesting for you!
Kaylee
Hi Makayla!
DeleteI enjoyed the beginning of the book too. What book would you pick if you didn't have chinese handcuffs?
Hi John!
DeleteMy second choice book was Running Loose because again, it sounds like nothing like I have read before. Now that I have read further into the book than I was on Friday i am enjoying the book more and more interested in the events that are happening.
Makayla
Hi Makayla,
DeleteI actually thought the book started fast and upbeat, especially when they kill the neighbors cat. So far it is interesting to see how the author kind of changes focus from one characters thoughts to another.
Hi Makayla,
DeleteI am also reading Chinese Handcuffs and even though I did not get to chose my book so I am not sure what the other ones were about, I do think this book is very interesting and a fun read. I love being able to find a book I can actually enjoy and not get tired of right away.
I chose the book Staying Fat for Sarah Brynes because I don't normally read book like it and it so I decided to go out of my normal comfort zone. from what I have read so far I am happy with the book I picked. It is kind of confusing as to why one of the main character is in the hospital but it gets a little more explain in the second chapter. The book has a lot of flashbacks which I like because it makes it more interesting to read.
ReplyDeleteI'm more of a fan of streamlined books. But, the explanation helps.
Deletethe flashbacks are meant to be a good way to jog Sarah's memory and to explain some others details as to why Eric and Sarah are best friends.
DeleteHi Mackenzy
DeleteI'm glad you chose a book out of your comfort and I hope you are enjoying the book you picked.
I felt the same way, I kept getting lost and confused. But as I read on the more it made sense. I did not get to choose my book but I'm happy with it.
DeleteHi Makenzy,
DeleteI completely agree with you when you mentioned getting a bit lost throughout the book, especially the whole hospital questioning. Additionally I agree with you when you mention enjoying the flashbacks. It makes the book a lot more interesting I think. I'm glad you enjoy this novel!
I didn't get to choose my book because I entered this class late, but I got the book Chinese Handcuffs. As of now this book is interests me, which is rare because it typically takes a unique type of book to get me hooked. Unlike other comments I've been seeing on this book, I don't think this book starts slow at all. I am happy with my book as it regards to a lot of the struggles us teenagers encounter on a daily basis. I was able to connect with some of the sporting comments made in the book as well. Something I really like about the book is the letters or journals being written, it adds a different perspective. The only real problem I have with my book is that there are 3 pages that have a bite taken out of them.
ReplyDeleteSawyer Nauman
Hi, Sawyer
DeleteI am glad you are enjoying your book so far and I like when book start fast. I am also a fan of when you can relate to a book like this one about teenagers and sports. Hopefully you book keeps you interested and you keep enjoying it.
Hi Sawkyer
DeleteI also didn't get to pick my book. If you had the choice to choose another book what would it be?
Hi, Sawyer
DeleteIt sucks you really didn't get to pick your book but I'm glad you are enjoying it. Its good that the book starts out real fast and you can make connections right away. I hope you are able to still make connections and you keep enjoying your book.
I also got in the class late and was not able to choose my book so it was difficult to try and be interested by something that you have no idea about but my book Staying Fat for Sarah Byrnes grabbed my attention right away and like yours it doesn't start slow.
DeleteHi Sawyer
DeleteI also didn't get to choose my book because I entered the class late. Just like you I enjoyed when the book takes off right away and gives me something interesting to read.
Hi Sawyer,
DeleteI also did not get to choose my book but I got the book running loose. my book relates to yours in the sense of having sports and teenagers in it. I hope you enjoy your book as you keep reading more.
I also got Chinese Handcuffs and I'm really enjoying the book as well. I also am not a big reader as well, and I'm hooked to the book. Glad your liking the book and the weird format.
DeleteHi Sawyer,
DeleteI also did not get to choose my book since i joined the class late as well. I am glad you are enjoying your book. I am the same as you and really need the book to interest me to get me to read it. Hope you like reading the rest of your book.
I don't really like reading so it didn't matter to mean what book I got but I ended up with the book Stotan. I have only read the first chapter so far and after reading it I am very confused. Normally at the beginning of books they will introduce the characters and sometimes tell you a little bit about them. Well this book didn't. When I read the first page of the first chapter it felt like I was starting in the middle of the book. As of right now I am not a big fan of this book. Hopefully as I read more I will start to like it more.
ReplyDeleteNate Donovan
Hi, Nate
DeleteI disagree with the confusing part, even though it doesn't give you a lot about the characters i still think its a good book in the fact that it gives a lot of information on what they are talking about and what is happening in the book currently
Hey Nate,
DeleteThat's a bummer that you're book feels confusing and you're not enjoying it much. I hope that it gets more clear and easy to read as you go on. Is there another book you would rather be reading out of the other choices?
Hi Laney
DeleteLike I said before it doesn't really matter to me what book I got because I don't like to read anyway. I have only read the first chapter in this book so maybe once I get further into the book maybe I will end up liking it.
Hey Nate,
DeleteI have also just started reading Stotan and I can agree with you to some extent that the first chapter is some what confusing, but I feel like if you read the summary on Its Learning it would have made a lot more sense. Hopefully you try that tactic in the future and good luck reading the rest of it.
I will be honest I am not a reader but this book seems good book to read and bit different than I normally red in school. So the book introduces there character their is a character named Eric, who is bit weird just like normal teenager he has a bestfriend named Sarah Byrnes who has some mental issues but not sure. This book was in my topic 3 because its about friendship that can never change with life and many more. Yes I am happy with my choice so far. The only connection I am making is that there friendship reminds of my friends, like how he is bold and honest about his friendship.
ReplyDeletehey Jaksh,
DeleteI see that you are enjoying your book. I am also glad with my choice of book but I was wondering who would you say your favorite character so far is? I would have to say mine is Sarah even though she isn't talking the present but from what is said about her she seems pretty cool.
A favorite? I'll have to keep looking. If I were forced to answer, I'd say... Sarah.
DeleteEric is a little strange. He is built to be a football player, or a wrestler, like the other coach wants him to, but instead he swims. He writers very well but doesn't excel in English
DeleteHey Jaksh,
DeleteI would have to agree with you that I like how there friendship is never ending (as far as we know) and that Moby seems to be a great friend to Sarah. I would have to say my favorite character so far is Sarah just because she seems spunky and I have a lot of questions for her right now.
Hey Jaksh,
DeleteAfter reading what you said about your book it seems like this would be one I would've enjoyed. Its good to change up your reading genres so you can find out which one you like the best. Glad you are enjoying your book so far!
Hey Jaksh,
DeleteGlad to see you are enjoying the book. I feel that our books have a lot in common early on with mine also being focused on a group of teenagers with a strong friendship. My main character, Walker, describes his friends very well and shows some of there personality traits that make them fit in well to the group. Good luck over the next week finishing up your book.
Hey Jaksh,
DeleteI'd have to agree with you on the connection you mentioned. I also believe in having an honest and trustworthy friendship with someone. I also like that you pointed out the hints in the book over some sort of mental illness in these characters. It makes a reader dive deeper into reasoning behind some events that happen.
I didn't get to pick my book but I got the book Chinese handcuffs. After reading the summary about Dillion brothers suicide, I just wanted to read more. So far I am happy with this book I just feel like the start of the book was a little slow and slightly confusing since it switches to perspectives. I feel like the drama and the struggles in the book make it interesting to read, as the book goes on it has been easier and more enjoyable for me to read.
ReplyDeleteClair Jecklin
Hi Clair,
DeleteI am glad you are hooked on your book and you like it so far! My book also has drama and struggles, and I will agree, it makes it a lot more interesting to read. I do not like when books have a slow start because it makes me bored and wanting to stop reading. I am glad you are enjoying it!
Kaylee
Hi Clair!
DeleteI agree about the drama and struggles, I am at the part where Jennifer is being put in her room at the hospital and it just makes me want to read more like you said. Even though it did start out slow, it picked up very quickly and became very interesting. Glad your liking it.
Makayla
Hi Clair,
DeleteI read the back cover and also the review and they did not sound terrible. I don't mind the book so far. The thing I like most is the way it switches perspectives because I feel like I am hearing every side of the characters.
Kaitlyn
I also did not get to choose my book but got hooked as well.
DeleteI am reading Chinese Handcuffs too. I agree it starts of slow but after a while it does pick up.
DeleteI chose the book Running loose because it reminded me off the small town life we have here in Peosta, Epworth, Farley and Dyersville. it intrigued me though to be able to see the ordeal Louie is going through as it seems unique. so far what I've read has been enjoyable and quite easy to read, i feel happy with my choice. as I haven't read too far I haven't been able to make any connections i feel soon i will be able to though.
ReplyDeleteI have been enjoying the book as well because like you said it is very easy to read and to keep going farther into the book. The book talks about the small town Trout a decent amount so maybe you can pull a connection from the details of the town to yours.
DeleteHi Chase
Deletei am reading the book running loose too and i am happy with my choice too. I also like how it relates to our town life i feel like i get the same vibe from the book to some of our small towns here.
I chose Running Loose because the other books were a bit to confusing for me to understand and the way the book grabbed my attention, its a teenager talking about his life in and out of school and some students in schools relate to this book and I like the way it started off, it just gets right into it and the book is so far interesting and I really enjoy it and easier to read.
ReplyDeleteAfter a while the book does get more in depth with less of his school/sports and gets much more interest. I am glad you are enjoying the book so far and it will be easy to finish if you are actually enjoying reading it!
DeleteHi Alik,
DeleteI am also reading this book as well. to be honest with you, somethings already kind of weirded me out at the beginning on page 11 if you know what I mean, but you know, no spoilers for those book nerds right. I also find teenager life interesting and engaging. Can't wait to read more!
I chose the book Running Loose mostly because i knew it talked about sports and how he loses his spot on the team while talking about how he handles the situation. So far i am happy with the book and i don't think i would pick a different one because it has caught my attention fairly well so far. I have been able to make a few connections to the book because i have actually been in the town Trout that the book talks about and seen the school the start of this book has been placed in.
ReplyDeleteHi Logan,
DeleteThe book is interesting because I have the book as well and the way it starts off, its not boring and the way he talks about his life. I'm glad that you are reading the book and you think its interesting and I hope you really enjoy it.
I didn't really get the book on the top of my list I got my 3rd choice which was Stotan. Stotan did interest me a little more than Staying Fat for Sarah Brynes so that's why it was my third choice I have only got to read the first chapter and so far I only got to learn the names of the main characters and what sport they do which is swimming. I'm a little confused right now about it but that just makes me want to read it more. I'm not really seeing this book as enjoyable just yet but I feel like I will. So far I'm not making any connections to the book. Overall, I'm happy with the book I have.
ReplyDeleteHi Andrew,
DeleteI also had this book as my 3rd choice. I am glad I didn't get it because the summary didn't interest me and you said it pretty confusing. Hopefully your book becomes more enjoyable and you start liking it more.
Eric Allen. Andrew I'm also reading this book and I want to say that I'm about in the same place you are with everything like I am almost finished with chapter one but I hope you enjoy the book
DeleteAndrew I am also reading the same book as you and am also confused around the first chapter. But I believe the book will get more interesting as we read on and I assume that we will connected with these teenage boys.
DeleteHi Andrew,
DeleteI also am reading Stotan and i would have to agree with you about Stotan not being that interesting. Hopefully Stotan starts to get interesting and it becomes a fun read!
I'm also reading the same book and yes I do agree with you that it is really slow to pull people in and at the start a ton of characters just got introduced which can be confusing for many including myself. The only thing so far that has my attention is the way the girl that swims for fun talks because I have a weird feeling that she is going to open the flood gates and point something out that the rest of them don't know yet. Hopefully this book starts swimming in our heads before it starts to sink like an anchor.
DeleteHi Andrew
DeleteI am also reading Stotan and I have only read the first chapter and I have to agree with you. As of right now I don't really find this book very interesting but hopefully it will get better as the book goes on.
I'm Carl Kennicker, an I'm reading "Staying Fat for Sarah Brymes". So far, the book is just the average day in the life of the main character. Its kinda mellow right now. Nothing interesting yet. But, as am I required to continue reading, I may find at least SOMETHING interesting. Until next time.
ReplyDeleteHi, Carl
DeleteI feel the same way about my book it does start off slow and basically throws you in the middle of the book but its still interesting in the way that they are talking about so many different topics.
I chose running lose because, the other books weren't in my liking. the other books just seemed to be more factual then a story to be told from a real life view point. I'm very very happy with my book choice because it has blown my mind away so far with the real life high school experiences, because it brings me into a different mindset of how high school was like back in the old days, because this book is based off in the 1980's. I find this book very enjoyable to be reading because, it has some weird kinky stuff in it that I wouldn't think would be in a highschool reader book, but what do you know, you learn something new every day.
ReplyDeleteHi thomas,
Deleteare you able to make connections to the book even when it's in a setting back in the 1980's? what are some similarities between highschool back then and now?
Hi Thomas
DeleteI'm glad that you chose a book that is a good read for you and I hope you continue liking it.
I chose Stotan because i thought it was a very interesting book and so far it is a interesting book. The other books seemed boring and not really my type of book. But Stotan is interesting in a way that its about swimming and i have never read a book that`s partially about swimming usually its about football or about people having magical electric powers that allow them to shoot electricity out of there hands.
ReplyDeleteI didn't really get to chose my book because I was sick for 4 days, but I ended up with the book Chinese Handcuffs. I am 15 pages into the book so I don't know too much about the characters yet. So far the book is giving off really sad vibes because it starts off by telling you that the main character, Dillon, is writing letters do his late brother, Parker, who committed suicide. It goes on to tell a flashback story about the time the boys killed the neighbor's cat with a tire jack because it scratched their dog. So far it seems like it's going to be a very gloomy book and kind of gives me the same vibes as The Catcher in the Rye, with the negative and sad theme to the book.
ReplyDeleteI didn't get to chose my book either and i got Chinese handcuffs. I feel like the first part of the book is slow and sad also but hopefully you will enjoy the book.
DeleteHey Laney, I agree that this books seems to have a gloomy vibe. I usually enjoy reading those sort of books and find them to be interesting. Are you enjoying Chinese Handcuffs so far?
DeleteYes i am! i really like books that are able to make me feel sad or like a sad feeling in my stomach, which Chinese Handcuffs already has. I like that it starts off kind of slow because it gives us time to process everything that's going on as well as try to understand what Dillon is really thinking about.
DeleteI chose to read the book Chinese Handcuffs because I thought it seemed the most interesting. When I read about how Dillon's brother Preston killed himself in front of Dillon it caught my attention. Although it seems like a sad story I thought it had the most detailed description and it was my first choice. So far I don't love the book because in the very beginning the two brothers kill a cat, but it is definitely interesting. I haven't made any connections to the book yet but hopefully I am able to soon.
ReplyDeletei had this book as my first choice and really wanted to read cause of the title, i wanted to pick that but got put with Staton and even if id pick that book, id hope to hear more and for you to enjoy the book.
DeleteThis comment has been removed by the author.
ReplyDeleteEric Allen. Staton wasn't the first book I wanted to read but i ended up picking it, it was in the middle and it peak my interest more through the day and I kept thinking about it and the more I did the more I wanted to read it, I read not a whole lot cause I'm a babysitter at my house but I got a few pages in so far. I cant wait for what this book is about and what is about for time to come. after the weekend I say that I'm happy about the book I picked.
ReplyDeleteRunning Loose was my first pick out of these four books. None of these books are my kind of 'casual read', but Running Loose sounded like the best one of the four. So far I'm only 18 pages in and cannot say that it has hooked my full attention. I'm slightly intrigued as I accidently read the last page and made the story seem like it had a dark ending. aside from my mistake, I'm willing to keep reading and want to know what the book has in store for its readers.
ReplyDeleteThe book I picked Stotan is slow to grab my attention too. I hope your book starts to reel you in as it goes on, as it has slightly intrigued you.
DeleteI am also reading Running Loose, one of the things I like about it is that before I started reading the summary on the back of the book had me interested. If this is the case for me it makes me want to read more and more of the book everyday wondering whats going to happen next.
DeleteHi William, I did not read the back page, but from the book so far I can tell Louie got in some trouble and he’s trying to get out of. Hopefully you can get into the book more at you continue!
DeleteI choose the book Chinese Handcuffs by Chris Crutcher and I'm glad I got this book sense it was my first pick. I chose this book because it peaked my interest and sounded like it would be a good book to read. I'm not big into reading, but have really enjoyed this book so far and I'm excited to read about what happens next in the book.
ReplyDeleteI am excited to see what happens as well Cayden, this book seems like it has a lot of potential concerning what happens in the plot.
DeleteI feel you Cayden, I am not a reader either. But this book from the bit that i have read seems like it will be good and i might be able to read the whole thing. hope you like the rest of the book.
DeleteAlthough Chinese Handcuffs wasn't my first choice I still thought it was a little interesting when reading the reviews. I'm glad I got it because the way Chris Crutcher introduces the characters is interesting and sets the mood for the book. I also think the letter format of telling the story in Dillon's point of view is pretty captivating.
ReplyDeleteChinese Hancuffs was not my first choice either but I am also happy I got this book. The one thing that pulled me in was the way the story is sometimes written in letter format.
DeleteI am reading the book staying fat for Sarah Byrnes. I chose it because it sounded better than the other books. It is about a guy named Eric. His best friend is Sarah and she is in the hospital. I'm at page 10 and it partially explains some things. Its been a while since i read a book but it seems like an easy enough read to keep me interested.
ReplyDeleteI am also reading Staying Fat for Sarah Byrnes and I agree, the book keeps me interested right away and it seems to keep moving.
DeleteI chose to read the book Stotan. This book peaked my interests because it was about a high school swim team. I have never read a book about a swimming team because I had no way of connecting to the main character(s) except this is a high school student's point of view and their struggles so I have something to connect to so far. This book is abnormal to my type of reading books which are mainly Greek. So far in this book they are introducing the main characters so far and a little bit of the swimming teams background. So far the book is slow to pull me in but I can sense some foreshadowing in chapter one already.
ReplyDeleteI did not get to choose my book, but the book I am reading is "Staying Fat for Sarah Byrnes" by Chris Crutcher. I have only read one chapter so far but I can tell the book is going to be a lot about two friends sticking together like they always have. Chris Crutcher starts off the book with the base of the story, the book starts off by a character describing their childhood and how miserable it was. The start of the story really introduces the storyline of the book and it attempts to grab the readers attention right away by hitting the ground running.
ReplyDeleteHey Colin
DeleteI only read the first chapter as well and I agree with you it grabs your attention, the book grabs your attention from the first couple words and I really liked that.
Hey Colin,
DeleteI am glad that you are enjoying your book. I would have to agree that the story starts straight off which helps keep us interested. If you are like me I have a hard time staying interested in a book so lets hope this book keeps us all interested.
I got my first choice of Stotan this book interest me because it involves sports at a high school level and I think I am going to be able to relate to the characters on many levels. I think this will help me get into the book a lot easier I only read the first chapter so far and we got introduced to the characters and kind of what the title about. We do not know yet what Stotan week is but we have some theories
ReplyDeleteI am reading the book Chinese Handcuffs. This was not my first choice but it was in the top three. I am only on chapter two but the book already has my attention. My favorite part is the way Chris Crutcher writes in letter format. I can not wait to get further into the book and hopefully it stays a good book.
ReplyDeleteHi Kaitlyn, I'm reading Chinese Handcuffs too and it has also gotten my attention already. I also enjoy the way Chris Crutcher wrote in letter format and think it makes it easier to read. I hope you enjoy the book.
DeleteHi Kaitlyn
DeleteI'm glad you are enjoying your book so far! The book I'm reading is Staying Fat For Sarah Bynes and im loving it too
I choose the book staying fat for sarah byrnes. I have started reading the first chapter and my initial thought was that it was alright so far. I like how the author can create the character in a lot of detail. I choose this book because it seemed like it would fit my interests better then any other of the books. It starts like you are just in Moby's average day. So far I like it and am excited to keep reading the book and find out where the author is headed.
ReplyDeleteHi Amelia
DeleteI thought the book was slow and then kind of hits you and gets a lot better I hope you enjoy the book.
Hi Amelia
DeleteI was given the same book and I'm loving it so far! The book definitely gets better the more you read and will leave you with many questions, or you wondering what will happen next.
I did not get to choose what book I got to read since I went on vacation but I am reading running loose. so far this book is very interesting to me since I am a big fan of sports and especially football. I enjoy how it shows the amazing parts of Louie's life and some of the not very good parts. So far this is a very good book and I hope that the story evolves into an even better story than it already is.
ReplyDeleteHi Max,
DeleteI am also reading Running Loose and i enjoy football just like you. The parts where Louie has problems are very interesting and fun to read about. For example, when Louie quits the football team because of the coach wanting his players to injure the other teams star player. Overall I enjoy the book just as much as you.
I am reading staying fat for Sarah Byrnes so far its slow and friends are there for each other helping out and looking out for one another. I only had time to read the first chapter and its normally not the book I would choose to read but I hop it gets better as I read on farther in the book.
ReplyDeleteI got my first choice Stotan and i have to say i'm not that interested in the book yet. But i do enjoy how descriptive Chris Crutcher. "We saw the notice about Stotan Week on the bulletin board just off the deep end of the pool after out early-morning workout today. It was already curling at the edges from the high humidity and chlorine content of the air, a lot the way my skin feels after a good three-hour workout." I can really feel like i can imagine that seen. This is one thing i hope he continues throughout the book!
ReplyDeleteI agree the imagery throughout the first couple pages is great and i do also hope it continues so that I can stay engaged.
DeleteI did not get to choose the book I wanted because I joined this class late. However, I got the book Running Loose and from reading the back of the book it seems interesting. The coach tries to get another player injured which is not okay but I think it happens more than we expect in high school or even the professionals.
ReplyDeleteI chose Stotan because i thought it was a very interesting book and so far it is a interesting book. The other books seemed boring and not really my type of book. But Stotan is interesting in a way that its about swimming and i have never read a book that`s partially about swimming usually its about football or about people having magical electric powers that allow them to shoot electricity out of there hands.
ReplyDeleteI agree, this book doesn't talk about people having fake powers it talks about the characters real life struggles. That I think is what makes the book so interesting is that its not fake, it gives real life problems which most people can relate to.
DeleteI choose the book Staying Fat For Sarah Byrnes. The reason that it was in my top three because it sounded interesting. I'm happy with the book so far because when read the first and it made me want to read more about it. I don't have much thoughts on the book just yet because I want to read more about it first. I have made any connections but I want to later in the book.
ReplyDeleteI chose the book Chinese Handcuffs. This book was my 2nd choice and Stotan was my first. I am happy with receiving this book to read, I like it because it's relatable because Dillon is our age, and i can relate to it with some of the things Dillon is going through at the moment. I think the reading is very interesting due to the fact that Crutcher wrote this book so long ago but yet I am able to still make a few connections with it which makes it so much easier to read it.
ReplyDeleteHi Cade, I am reading the same book as you although, I wasn't able to choose my book. I have enjoyed reading this book because I agree it is easier to connect to since the two main characters are teenagers.
DeleteI was given the book Stotan, now it wasn't my first choice, it was actually my bottom choice but after getting the book I'm kind of glad I got it because I'm enjoying it so far. I like how its a swimming book because you never really read a book that has to do with swimming and I also like how they really don't explain what Stotan week is and makes it very suspenseful.
ReplyDeleteI agree, I have never read a book that has to do with swimming. I feel like if people read a book about sports, it is usually football or baseball because they are sports most people are involved in. Most people don't realize that all sports put in the equal amount of work whether it is a popular sport or not.
DeleteI was not able to pick my book due to the fact that I entered the class late, but I am very happy with the book I was given. My book was Chinese Handcuffs and I like the book because the two main characters are close to our age so it's easy to find things to relate to. I was surprised that I ended up liking the book as much as I did because usually it is pretty hard for me to enjoy a sports themed book. I think it is interesting to be able to find things to relate to in this book especially because this book was written so long ago.
ReplyDeleteHi Makenna,
DeleteI was also given Chinese Handcuffs! Were you able to understand that the beginning was Dillon writing a letter to his brother? It took be a little bit to figure that out.
I chose the book Running Loose because I wanted to read a sports book. I have always been into sports most my life. I am happy with my choice. The book is not only about football it also connects with the lives of the characters. I thought that Louie would be a little more chill than how he has acted a few times in the book so far. I feel like I can connect to the book because I also live in a small town and know that lifestyle that is in Running Loose.
ReplyDeleteChinese Handcuffs is also about an athlete while also connecting the characters lives. I am glad that we can both connect to our books.
DeleteHi Ben, I am also reading Running Loose and I am also liking it so far and I find this read relatable because I also live in a small town
DeleteComing into the class late I was not able to chose what book to read, but I was given Chinese Handcuffs. I am very happen with the book that was given to me because this is the type of book I gravitate towards. Being that the two main characters so far are teenagers and one being very athletic, it is easy to relate to since I am also very athletic. The beginning of the book turned dark very quickly and took me by surprise, but other than that I am enjoying it.
ReplyDeleteHi Sara, I have also joined the class late and am reading the same book. I agree with you in the beginning of the book it does turn dark very fast. I also I feel that I can relate to the main characters just for the fact that they are around the same age as us.
DeleteHi sara, just like you I also joined late. I’ve always heard good things about that book and would love to read it! I am reading a book called Stotan! It is also related to sports, it is about a boy swim team. Just like you I think my book has been turning dark in various areas.
DeleteSince I came late to the class I did not get the opportunity to choose a book to read. I was assigned to read Chinese Handcuffs. So far I really enjoy this book because it has so many elements that are unexpected. When I started to read it I was sort of confused how it went from the past to the present. As the story goes on it gets into deep and serious topics that the main characters have gone through and are still going through.
ReplyDeleteI was not able to choose my book since i joined the class late but i cannot complain because i am enjoying the book i received. I got Running Loose and it has been a good read so far. It has been pretty easy to understand and follow. It is dealing with a kid who is starting to take his sport more serious once he realizes that he can be good with hard work. I can relate to this because i did just played sports but realized i could be good once i start setting my mind it to. This book interests me and I am excited to read the rest of it.
ReplyDeleteHi Dylan, I agree with you that the book is very easy to understand so far. I also can relate to louie just like you because I am involved in sports and I see some of the same stuff as Louie everyday. The best part about the book so far is that it is very interesting to read.
DeleteI joined the class late so I was not able to choose my book but I was given Running Loose. I am enjoying my book so far as I am getting to know the characters. I am excited to keep reading and figuring out what is so bad that happened to Louie
ReplyDeleteHi Maci, I am also reading the book Running Loose. I agree that I am also enjoying the book and learning about the characters. I really like reading about each character's background because it helps us understand why they are who they are. I also like how the characters are our age so it makes it relatable.
DeleteOlivia Hefel: Stotan!
ReplyDeleteI am currently reading the book Stotan! by Chris Crutcher. I didn't get to choose what book I read due to joining the class late. Although I didn't get to choose my book, I am very happy and interested in the book I am reading. The chapters always leave off on a sentence that makes me want to keep reading. I also like how the book shares real aggressive stories about the main characters' background. It doesn't say they come from a perfect family. Most of the characters come from a rough background and they deal with a lot more then what their friends think, such as being abused. I feel like in different stories when it talks about how the main characters get everything handed to them, it doesn't make the story as interesting and it sounds fake.
I do not think the reading is confusing at all. It is a very easy read and easy to follow.
I have made several connections to the book. The first connection is that the main characters are seniors in high school and I am also a senior in high school. In the book, it talks about the main characters' future plans and somethings they are undecided on. I can relate to that because I am starting to look at my future plans. I could also relate to the book, because the main characters are involved in a sport, swimming. I am also involved in a sport, tennis. I feel like they are both sports that most people don't pay as close attention to, but we put in as much hard work as any other sport. Overall, I am really liking the book and can't wait to see what happens next!
Hi Olivia, I am not reading this book but it does sound very interesting and sort of similar to my book. Much like your book, my book, Running Loose, involves the characters being seniors in high school as well. My book also tells us about the background of our characters. Most students background are good, however, one kid's background involves an abusive dad. This sounds very similar to your book when you say they have rough background since this kid also has a rough background.
DeleteI did not have any say in the book I was given to read since I joined the class later on, but I feel as though I got lucky with the one I got. Stotan has been a very interesting story up to this point as I have reached chapter 4. I have really like how the author has set up the characters so well. It is great that so early into the story I can already picture all of the main characters in Walker Dupree's friend group and this makes in much easier to follow along in the story. I look forward to continue reading throughout this week and see what "Stotan Week" is all about.
ReplyDeleteSince I joined this class late, I was not able to choose my book. The book I got was Stay Fat for Sarah Brynes. I liked the book so far, I have not gotten bored of it yet. Sometimes I catch myself loosing where I am at in the book, so often have to reread what I read or I would be lost. The reading is very interesting, nothing like what I've read.
ReplyDeleteHey Kate!
DeleteWe are in the same boat as I joined this class late too. Thankfully for me I haven't had to do a lot of rereading so I hope it will be a little easier for you to understand as time goes on. I'm glad you are enjoying your book though and I might have to read it sometime if I get the chance. It sounds really interesting. Happy reading! :)

Since I have joined the class late I was unable to pick a book of my choice, but I'm still very excited about what I got. The book I was given is Staying Fat for Sarah Brynes. So far what I have read I enjoy the book a lot. So far I'm at chapter 4 and already have so many questions. I have not yet been bored with what I've read, or I haven't been lost in anything I've been reading. I think the book is an easy read and so far it shares many life lessons and real life situations that people may face.
ReplyDeleteI did not get to choose my book since I joined this class late. However, I am happy with the book I was given which is the book Running Loose. This book is an easy read and very easily understandable. I am not finding any difficulty in understanding what is happening so far so I am actually enjoying the book. The main character in this book, Louie, is a senior in high school just like the rest of us which makes it much more relatable and intriguing. I am just getting into the book so its just starting to get interesting.
ReplyDeleteHi Erin!
DeleteI can certainly relate to you as I am in the same boat as you. I joined late and was assigned Running Loose too. Like you I am happy with it a lot and think it is very easy to follow along with. I can't wait to continue reading the book and I hope you keep enjoying it :))

Hi Erin, I also joined in late and did not get to choose my book. I am reading Stotan and it is also about seniors in high school which makes it very relatable! I am enjoying my book too, at first I was worried I wouldn't like it but as I keep reading it keeps getting more interesting!

I was not able to choose my book Running Loose because I got added into the class late since I dropped Intro to Lit. I am happy however that I did get assigned this book as it is about a high school student who is on his high school football team. I am a huge fan of sports so I think this could be right up my alley if football continues to be in the book. I can relate to this book very easily as I am a high school athlete myself. I can relate to the first week of practice that Louie was dreading in the book. The first week is always the hardest and I am always super sore. I can relate to seeing teammates who are not in shape throw up during the workouts. Also, I am one of those people like Louie who will do workouts in the summer with teammates to get in shape for the upcoming season. Thus far I am really enjoying the book and I cannot wait to continue reading it!

Like many I joined this class late and didn’t get to pick what book I got to read. But I was given the book Stotan! It is about this boy named Walker and his friends who are all on the swim team and how they all volunteered for this thing called Stotan week, without knowing what it was. So far I’m really enjoying this book, it keeps getting really deep and I like learning a lot about the characters.
ReplyDeleteI was Given the book Running Loose by Chris Crutcher and so far I am enjoying it. It is about a boy named Louie who is in high school. He plays on the football team and has a lot going on with the team. The coach makes some controversial choices and Louie doesn't agree with them. This leads to him quitting the team. This book is very easy to relate to because I am involved in other sports and know what it is like to be involved on a team. There seems to be a Boomer on every team also. Overall this book is pretty easy to understand and fun to read.
ReplyDeleteI didn't get to choose my book as I joined this class late, however I am so far pretty happy with the novel that has been assigned to me. This book is about a girl named Sarah Byrnes, a friend of another main character, Eric Calhoune. They are both high schoolers with appearances that set them apart from their peers. Throughout their high school senior year they stay together and remain friends through every setback or mental struggle they face. This book is very interesting and draws a reader like myself in to a deeper level of interest due to the fact that I also am in high school, and have seen or heard of some of these problems happen to real people.
ReplyDeleteI chose the book Chinese Handcuffs because it had a interesting title and it was about mental health which I struggle with. I am glad I chose this book because I can really relate to it with the mental health. It is about a boy named Preston who killed himself right in front of his younger brother Dillon. Dillon is trying to handle personal life and dealing with his brother's death. It is a good book so far.
